Angie Robotham worries about kids crossing her busy road to school. So she's decided to do something about it. The Henderson resident supervises youngsters - including her own two daughters, as they make their way across the road to the Western Heights Primary school.

The Waitakere City Council heard about her efforts and has given her fluorescent vests, umbrellas and a first aid kit. Parking services team manager Colin Waite says Mrs Robotham is a good example of someone chipping in to help others in the community.

Mr Waite says the council also donated road cones, umbrellas and fluorescent vests to pedestrian monitors at 40 west Auckland schools earlier this year.
