High visibility: Aimee Rutherford, from Tirimoana School, guides Sirina Talfou and Ralph Hector across the road.
Crossing the road just got a whole lot safer for schoolchildren thanks to the Waitakere City Council.
Seventy schools have been given high visibility vests, reflective cones and umbrellas to use on their pedestrian crossings.
Councillor Penny Hulse says the $3700 project is funded through revenue from parking fines.
The council is also pushing for a law change that will see the speed limit dropped to 40kmh around schools.
"Our whole message is slow down," Mrs Hulse says.
