Massey students get a taste of politics

By LEANNE WARR

They are classmates now but expect to see a bit of rivalry in July when Daisy Hunter and Sam Jackson head to Wellington.

The Massey High School seniors have been chosen to represent Labour MP Lynne Pillay and National Party leader John Key in youth parliament.

Students from across New Zealand are selected by MPs every three to four years to take part in the programme and get a taste of political life.

Pupils get the chance to take part in debates, sit on select committees, question Cabinet ministers and tour the parliamentary complex.

Sam is looking forward to the experience.

"It's an opportunity to voice the opinions of youth around west Auckland," the Massey East resident says.
