Henderson South walking to the Maxx
By Leanne Warr
More kids are walking to school thanks to Maxx the pukeko.
The Auckland Regional Transport Authority mascot is touring various schools in the region to encourage ways of easing traffic congestion.
Henderson South School is the latest to get a visit.
Principal Cliff Hughes says survey results show 50 per cent of his pupils come by car, including some who live well within a kilometre of school.
Henderson South is working with police and Land Transport to try and improve the figure.
Its efforts coincide with an education ministry funded scheme promoting healthy eating.
