Well taught: Chadd Davis has been teaching junior science at Green Bay High.
By Leanne Warr
Chadd Davis is well on the way towards his goal of becoming a teacher.
He's just 16 and has already taught a class or two.
"I asked the science teacher if I could teach her class and she got permission for me to go ahead," he says.
The year 11 Green Bay High student had finished his exams and was keen to try teaching a junior class.
He hasn't been put off.
"They respected me and didn't give me any trouble."
Chadd knew getting the students to cooperate so close to the end of the school year would be a challenge.
So he picked a subject he knew would interest them.
"I taught edible science."
He put together a PowerPoint presentation on sherbet and popcorn.
He even got the kids to make some popcorn as part of the exercise.
"I thought it would be a fun thing to do," Chadd says.
"It was something they can see."
Chadd is still awaiting his exam results but reckons he has done quite well in his favourite subject.
"I've always achieved highly in practice exams."
He looks forward to university in two years but hasn't fully decided what subject he wants to specialise in teaching.
"Science, or maybe drama," he says.
