Lucy Brooks has always liked being the centre of attention and has been singing for as long as she can remember.

"I love performing in front of people," she says.

The 12 year-old is among winners at this year's west Auckland singing competition.

The St Dominic's College student took home a trophy for the second year in a row.

"There's only one other person who's won more than once," she says.

Lucy came first in three areas of the competition including song in costume.

She placed third in vocal solo and second in the Scottish or Hebridean song class.

Lucy decided to take singing lessons after competing in a talent show in Year 4.

Two years ago she played a two-headed llama in the Glen Eden playhouse production of Dr Dolittle.

"It was fun but very awkward," she says.

"But it helped me boost my confidence."

Lucy would like to study opera at university or have a career in theatre.

"It's a big commitment," she says.
