Over the past ten years Waitakere City has become well known for its inclusive and collaborative approach and its multi-sector, multi-agency approach to problem solving. The Waitakere Way, which has emerged, is about three way partnerships - central government, local government and communities working together to promote and enhance city well being.
In terms of education, the Waitakere Education Sector Trust is now seen as a major vehicle for collaboration within and across the education sector in Waitakere City. WEST is about citywide education and community needs and shared benefits and gains. It is not about individual schools and individual rewards. Stemming from an initial partnership between the City Council and the Waitakere Area Principals Association, WEST was officially launched in 2001 and has now developed into the key umbrella network for education in Waitakere City.
